Help Horses

At Soquilichi Animal Rescue, we believe that every horse deserves a chance at a better life. Over the years, we have rescued over 3,000 horses from across the country—beautiful beings who have often been neglected or deemed untrainable by their previous owners.

Our Mission

These forgotten horses have stories that need to be told, and we provide them with hope, treatment, and placement. Our commitment goes beyond just rescue; we aim to rehabilitate and prepare these majestic animals for a brighter future. When a horse in need is identified, we first approach the owner to surrender the animal to Soquilichi. Once we have that permission, we organize transport to our rescue ranch in the Sunshine Coast.

Your Support Matters

Rescuing horses is a very expensive exercise due to their large size, making them the most costly to rehabilitate, transport, feed, and medicate. They require a significant time investment to get back on their hooves. Your support plays a vital role in helping us cover these costs. Every donation helps us provide these horses with the love and care they need to thrive.

The Rescue Process

Rescuing horses is a big part of Soquilichi’s efforts. We appreciate all the help we can get to give horses a second chance. Here’s how we do it:

01

Health Check

Upon arrival, one of our vets performs a thorough health check to assess the horse’s condition.

02

Specialized Diet

Each horse is placed on a special diet carefully tailored to meet their unique nutritional and health requirements.

02

Rehabilitation

We engage a team of experts to begin the rehabilitation process, including a farrier, horse dentist and equine body workers.

Depending on the horse, some can be rehabbed for riding, while the majority are classed as unsound. All is not lost, as we find them companion homes where they can live peacefully. In a companion home, a horse may not be ridden, but they can be patted, fed, nurtured, and loved. They often become friends to other farm animals and horses.

A New Lease on Life

We understand that many of these horses have faced significant challenges, but with time, patience, and the right guidance, they can learn to trust again and find new homes where they can flourish. Soquilichi takes in horses with difficult temperaments or those located in far-flung areas—horses that other rescue charities might deem too challenging to rescue. This is a labour of love; depending on the horse’s condition, a simple case may take 6 weeks, while more challenging cases can take 6 months or more.

Join us in our mission to give a voice to these incredible animals and help us create a brighter future for horses in need. Together, we can turn their stories of neglect into tales of hope and recovery.
